TexCotton — Revitalizing Blumenau's Industrial Heritage
The TexCotton project represents a milestone in the history of industrial architecture in Blumenau, a city known for its tradition of textile industries of the highest standard. Located in the old Sul Fabril manufacturing park, one of the city's large factories that closed its activities, the project was developed to revitalize this iconic space. The new proposal reinterprets the cultural and historical heritage of the place, adapting it to contemporary work demands.
The opportunity to create this project came with the purchase of the manufacturing park by a new company, which entrusted the office with the mission of transforming it. The work carried out went beyond the intelligent and modern occupation of the space: it deeply respected the original essence of the structure, preserving the historical elements and clearly stating what was added, using contemporary materials.
One of the most significant interventions was the transformation of a front parking lot into a public square. This space now houses green areas, toys for children and an accessible park, redefining the environment and promoting the connection between the company and the local community. This gesture highlights the belief that even private spaces can and should contribute to urban and social life.
This project won us the Saint-Gobain award, one of the most prestigious in Brazilian architecture, highlighting the relevance of revitalizing spaces built with sensitivity and innovation. TexCotton reflects the firm's manifesto, seeking to value public spaces, promote meetings, and strengthen collective memory. More than a restructuring, it is a rebirth for the history of Blumenau, which combines economic, emotional and cultural development.
