Gard — New Seafront Typology on the Santa Catarina Coast

The Gard project is an innovative residential architecture proposal on the Santa Catarina coast, located on a narrow plot with direct views of the sea. The essence of the project lies in its tiered typology, where the apartments are organized in a cascading arrangement, allowing each unit to have an uncovered terrace. This solution creates a unique living experience, with open spaces and integration with the landscape.

To deal with the complexity of vertical circulation, the tower of elevators and stairs was positioned at the back of the land, separated from the main body of the building. This configuration resulted in triangular spaces that connect the elevators to the apartments, turning into hanging gardens filled with greenery. Not only do these gardens create green areas between floors, but they also provide a sense of connection to the outside.

The project balances the residents' experience fairly: the apartments on the higher floors have stunning sea views, while the lower apartments enjoy larger gardens due to the longer distance from the elevators. This approach promotes a sense of equality between units and reinforces the commitment to architecture designed for everyone.

On the ground floor, a free, wooded space houses a restaurant and public access areas, promoting interaction and liveliness. The Gard stands out as a typology that redefines the waterfront experience, offering a harmonious integration between architecture, nature and urban planning.
