Lutheran Park — A Look to the Future Inspired by the Past

Lutheran Park is a project that transcends the simple act of meeting immediate demands. Located in the historic heart of Blumenau, next to the recently restored iconic Lutheran Church, the park is a reflection on how to design spaces for the next 100 years. This space, which was already a symbol of inspiration more than a century ago, continues to represent the vision of a Lutheran community committed to its history and its future.

The proposal stems from the desire to go beyond current needs, such as access and parking, and to look to tomorrow with optimism. We believe that the future requires spaces that inspire, that house diverse uses, and that celebrate collectivity and contemplation. For this reason, the project reinterprets the existing urban layout, seeking innovative solutions that promote a lasting impact both on the space and on the community.

Among the proposed interventions, we suggest the creation of a community park that replaces areas currently dominated by parking lots. This wooded and democratic space will not only restore a stronger connection to nature to the city, but it will also open new paths for community encounters and activities. In addition, we designed a linear arch-shaped museum, located in front of the church, to offer unprecedented perspectives and highlight the monumental nature of the historic construction, often obscured by the current urban layout.

Another fundamental proposal is a large multifunctional event center, designed to replace, in the future, the parking lots designed today. This center will be an adaptable space, where the diversity of uses can meet the cultural, educational, and religious demands of the community. Its conception already reflects a vision of intelligent and planned expropriation, transforming the present into potential for the future.

Lutheran Park is a tribute to the legacy of the community that conceived it, but also an invitation to think beyond. By redesigning this space based on the question “What should we build for the next 100 years?” , the project embraces not only current needs, but also the dreams and possibilities of a society in constant transformation. It reaffirms our commitment to imagining futures that promote not only practical solutions, but also hope, beauty, and connection.
